Skin Cancer Treatment with Magnetic Bandages

Skin Cancer Treatment with Magnetic Bandages

Skin cancer, one of the most common kinds of cancers, is mainly caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Conventional treatments include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Science have developed a non-invasive bandage made of magnetic nanofibers to treat skin cancer.

In the study published in the journal Cancer Reports, it was observed that while cancer cells were successfully destroyed, healthy cells were not damaged by the method based on applying heat to the bandage.

Successful results in in-vitro experiments and mouse studies are considered promising for larger-scale studies.
